There’s this idea that newborn photos have to happen almost immediately. Within the first week or so, or you’ve somehow missed it. And while those early days are beautiful, they’re not the only days that matter.
I typically recommend scheduling your newborn session around two weeks old. It’s a sweet spot where babies are still tiny and new, but families have had a little time to settle in. Even with that recommendation, I don’t place a strict time limit on when a newborn session can take place.
Because life doesn’t always follow a timeline.
Sometimes babies arrive earlier than expected. Sometimes there’s a longer recovery. Sometimes those first couple of weeks are just about getting through the days and nights, and adding a session to the calendar doesn’t feel realistic. I understand that.
Lifestyle newborn sessions are meant to meet you where you are. Whether your baby is right at that two-week mark or a little older, your story is still just as meaningful to capture.
There’s something really special about photographing babies who are a bit more alert. The way they look at you. The way they move and stretch. The way you’ve already learned them, and they’ve already learned you. Your home feels like home again. You’re settling into your rhythm.
That connection shows up in your images.
Your session doesn’t need to fit into a rigid window to be beautiful. It just needs to feel like you.
So if things didn’t go exactly as planned, you didn’t miss anything. Whenever you’re ready, that’s the right time.
